Some of you may know my husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's last year. I thought I would share some pics of this smell research test he was selected to participate in through the Parkinson's foundation. It was an envelope of 4 booklets with scratch and sniff scents in total about 40 scents. He has had some anosmia/parosmia for years but we thought it was due to swimming pool chemical exposure. It could have been that but now we know that people with Parkinson's and dementia start showing signs of anosmia up to 10 years before diagnosis. My Mom also has had anosmia for as long as I can remember. She is diagnosed with dementia. There are some recommendations to make smell testing part of annual exams.

I made some flashcards to help learn Common and botanical names. It is located in your Courses tab, titled "Latin and Botanical Name Flash Cards." There are 59 in one stack, I guess I didn't realize how many there were until I made it LOL. Should I change it to 30 and 29, or leave it as is?

I just saw a post someplace asking if there is an oil to help a breach baby turn around. 🤦‍♀️ No, no there is not. FYI My second daughter was breach, and criss cross applesauce. I refused a C-section and pain meds. I don't know what I was proving or to who. 🤷‍♀️ Not fun, not fun at all.

If you're feeling as tense as the season finale of your favorite drama series, try this aromatic duo for a natural chill! 🌿✨ Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea) - Your go-to for a natural stress reliever and mood booster! You can just add a few drops to your diffuser or for a topical application, stick to a maximum of 5%. Simply dabbing a little on in a 1% dilution can help you turn that drama into peace! 🌟 Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) - Breathe in the sweet aroma to slash stress, dial down cortisol levels, and ease anxiety and depression symptoms. If you’re using it on your skin, you can go up to a 🙄17.5% concentration based on its 30.3% geraniol content even though no one needs anywhere near that much. 1% or 2% is much better. 🌸💆‍♀️ Both oils promise to add some calm to the storm, letting you enjoy a scent-sational serenity as the tension melts away! 🍃🎭 (Materia Aromatica - Tisserand Institute Clary Sage and Geranium profiles) (Safety- Tisserand, R., & Young, R. What are some essential oils that come from a part of a plant that is different from what you'd think? I'll start by saying I didn't expect Elemi to be a resin; it smells floral to me. A couple of years ago, aromatherapist Jirbie Go sent me a beautiful gift of Elemi resin and essential oils. It smells beautiful and is also great as an infused oil.

🌱 What Are Latin Binomials? Latin binomials (aka botanical names or scientific names) are the two-part Latin names used to identify plants precisely. Every plant species is given a unique two-part scientific name, known as a Latin binomial. The first part represents the genus. The second identifies the specific species. For example, the common lavender essential oil is typically derived from *Lavandula angustifolia*. This nomenclature (naming system) helps ensure clarity when identifying and distinguishing between plant species.

Bergapten Bergapten (5-methoxypsoralen) is a naturally occurring organic chemical compound produced by numerous plant species, especially from the carrot family Apiaceae and the citrus family Rutaceae. For example, bergapten has been extracted from 24 species of the genus Heracleum in the family Apiaceae. In the family Rutaceae, various Citrus species contain significant amounts of bergapten, especially the bergamot orange, micrantha, and certain lime and bitter orange varieties. Bergapten belongs to a class of chemical compounds known as the furanocoumarins. In 1834, Kalbrunner isolated 5-methoxypsoralen from bergamot essential oil,[4] hence the common name "bergapten." It was the first furanocoumarin to be isolated and identified. For more information about Bergapten, you can check the reference. Bergapten. (2023, January 12). I spoke about functional group theory in the Skool group, and I want to add something here about it for anyone who hasn't read the paper Debunking Functional Group Theory: Not Supported by Current Evidence and Not a Useful Educational Tool. https://tisserandinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/FGT_FINAL.pdf The basics of a Functional group are that molecules are grouped by their structures and therapeutic properties. For instance, it has been said that Esters are sedative and antispasmodic. Monoterpenes are anti-inflammatory and air purifiers. Not all chemicals in the Esther family are sedative or antispasmodic, and the same goes for the properties of Monoterpenes or any of the other groups. Aromatherapy schools and some teachers still teach about them, so I will make posts about chemical families on occasion, but I would rather focus mainly on individual chemical constituents here in our community.
